Infrastructure (i)

Infrastructure includes basic and enabling technology and services necessary for supporting livelihood and human security needs at all times, including on a daily basis, pre and post disasters and in a changing climate in the long term. Infrastructure and technology is considered to support community resilience when they are: sufficiently robust to cope with disaster and climate risks; movable (for relocation or retreat) when necessary; able to have alternative or ‘back up’ options;
relevant to supporting livelihood and human security needs; and open to wide ownership. Infrastructure and technology may be categorized by systems that: support basic services such as housing, water and sanitation, health, education, justice and others; and those that enable economic activities including transport (roads, bridges, airports, ports/jetties), ICT, energy, agriculture, fisheries, forestry and tourism and other sector industries.
